Day 37 20. 3.20 Maria Island

Big day on the island. Caught the ferry across with our bikes on board. The original inhabitants of Maria Island were the Puthikwilayti people 40,000 years ago.  Europeans arrived in 1789 and the convicts arrived in 1825.
View from the ferry.

Lots of wombats wandering around. Didn't have to ride very far to see them.  Very few predators on the island so they are out during the day.

Check this link out to see me with the wombat 😍 thanks to Gunther.

My bike chain snapped and as hard as Mark and Gunther tried to fix it, it was dead 😏. It was 6 kms back to the ferry. Mark gave me a push to help me roll along then Gunther found a rope that had been washed ashore and the boys tied it to their bikes and towed me for about 5 undulating kms. 💪💪
Video thanks to Carmel.

Mark got a new chain from the bike hire place on the island put it on my bike and we were off again.

Cape Barron geese were introduced to the island.

We all decided that fish n chips by the marina was the perfect finish to the day. The quality and quantity were great.

The cruiser had a day off today, blue dot is where we are camped and the red is Maria Island.  The ferry ride was approx 30mins.
