Day 26 9.3.20 Derwent Bridge.

Exciting day planned with a trip on the steam train from Queenstown to Doubil Barril. Then we move on to a pub stay at Derwent Bridge Hotel. Way too many photos again today and little Telstra reception.
The clouds were below Mount Lyell on our walk to the station at 7.30am.
 An interesting motorcycle

Finally at the train station
Carriages were reasonably new but built to be replicas of days gone by.
Gold panning at one of the station stops.
 Eureka, I found gold 😂
Steep climb up the mountain called for a rack n pinion to help the train.

 Views of King William Gorge.

 Turning the engine around

Backing the train up
Went for a wander in the rainforest

 Loo with a view
Back on the train for the return journey we swapped sides so everyone got a good view.
Another stop on the way back to fill up the water tank.
 Swivling front windows

After the train ride we packed up and headed for Derwent Bridge Hotel campground.
Stopped off for a walk on the way.
Lots of different fungi on this walk.

 Really big trees
 King William Saddle
Derwent Hotel for dinner was definitely a lot more more expensive than the Howard pub. Those of us who had the curry had a decent size but those who didn't were short changed in the quantity department. Nonetheless it was a lovely treat with great company.

Today we traveled 85kms taking the total to 3193.
